Other series

Besides the Transformers, there have been many other great series. Some, such as Robotech, have still a large group of fans, while others, such as Thundersub, seem almost forgotten.
Here follows a list of series, which are still fondly remembered by me. Unfortunately, I don't have any episodes of most of these series anymore, from a few series I just have one episode. The descriptions that are given by the series are done by memory, so some details may be wrong.

Thundersub Visionaries Robotech Exosquad Robotix Inhumanoids

Thundersub
Thundersub This series took us to the year 2052. The Federated Nations of Earth have established research centers on all planets of the solar system. On Earth nine research centers were developed; N1 to N9. The entire world is at peace. Then suddenly, a mysterious meteor shower appeared. The meteors were sophisticated engines of an alien race, used to investigate the Earth. On board of their giant artificial moon, the Death Star, the aliens analyze the data from the meteors. The aliens decide that Earth can be made habitable for them. Scientists on Earth examine one of the meteors and discover it's true nature.
Collin CollinsResearchers of all the nine research centers have a meeting to discuss this discovery. Among them is professor Collins. During the meeting the aliens attack the entire Earth. The building were the scientists were meeting was also hit. The professor is mortally wounded, and he gives a device to his son, Collin Collins, and tells him to go to N1, Hawai. Collin heads out to N1, together with his friends, Chris and Jamy.
In the remains of N1 they find a giagantic submarine; Thundersub. Using the device of his father, Collin activates Thundersub. Just after they leave the base with the submarine, another submarine, Tempest Junior, attaches itself to Thundersub. On board of the Tempest Junior is the crew of Thundersub. Collin explains to captain Noah how they managed to activate Thundersub and the captain appoints Collin and his friends to the Tempest Junior, under the command of captain Brogan.
General GulfSoon it becomes clear that the entire Earth has been virtually destroyed. The few surviving humans have gone under cover or are taken prisoner by the aliens. The main problem of captain Noah, is that Thundersub wasn't ready yet. An engine that would allow Thundersub to fly in space, was being developed in N9, Australia.
This sets the plot for this series. During this series the crew set out to reach N9, not knowing whether it was still intact. Various adventures were made during this journey; they liberated some prisoners, they encountered a cruise ship on which everyone was killed, they destroy a fortress of the aliens that blocked the Suez canal, they recue one of the last Koala bears, etc. The aliens are frustrated by the actions of Thundersub and during the series the alien Ambassador to Earth, general Gulf, is replaced by another alien, admiral Global. One alien, named Lupus, makes it his sole purpose to destroy Thundersub. Certainly, after his best friend, Zogal, is killed by the attack on the fortress at the Suez canal.
Daughter of captain NoahAt the end of the series Thundersub and Tempest Junior split up to destroy enemy bases at the North and South pole. The bases are being developed to change the Earth atmosphere into an atmosphere that is breathable by aliens and poisenous to humans. The Rocketcopter, also a part of Thundersub, is send to the Sahara to destroy a third alien base. Thundersub is succesful, but Tempest Junior is almost captured. Captain Brogan sacrifices himself to destroy the net which is holding Tempest Junior. Similarly, the pilot of the Rocketcopter flies into the Sahara base and destroys both the Rocketcopter and the base.
After Tempest Junior and Thundersub are reunited, Thundersub destroys the North Pole base and finally reaches N9. There Thundersub is being converted into a spaceship. But while the ship is being remodelled, an alien submarine, commanded by Lupus, approaches the underwater base of N9. Tempest Junior, now under the command of Collin, is the only ship to stop Lupus. The alien submarine is destroyed, but Lupus manages to escape. The cook of Tempest Junior, chef Pierre, is killed when the Tempest Junior starts making water, during the battle between the two submarines. Thundersub is some days later ready and leaves Earth towards the Death Star, together with three other spaceships.
Admiral GlobalMeanwhile, all high ranking aliens are onboard the Death Star and make some startling discoveries. The aliens came from a dying planet far into the universe. The Death Star was built by the Emperor, to evacuate the entire population to a new planet. Most of them were put into containers on board of the Death Star to be awakened as soon as a new planet was reached, while the rest would take the Death Star to the new planet. What the high ranking aliens now learn from their Emperor, is that most of the population in the containers is already dead, because the systems have failed. The Earth was not the perfect planet for the aliens, but due to technical failures the Death Star could not travel any further. That was why the Emperor chose Earth.
While the aliens discover they have been betrayed by their own Emperor, Thundersub and the three spaceships defeat the entire fleet of the Death Star, only one of the three human spaceships is destroyed. The alien Emperor sees that he has almost lost. Nevertheless, he orders Lupus to take the Emperial Battlecruisher and destroy Thundersub. Lupus challenges Thundersub and captain Noah agrees. During the fight Lupus is defeated, while an explosion on board Thundersub seriously injures captain Noah.
The ships head back to EarthJust after Lupus had left the Death Star, the other aliens had taken the command from the Emperor. They activate the Death Star and plot a course to take them out of the solar system. The aliens, now commanded by admiral Global, explain their situation and ask Collin, who now commands Thundersub, to let them go. But, then the engines of the Death Star fail and the Death Star starts drifting towards Earth. Collin orders a course that will crash Thundersub into the Death Star to safe the Earth. Just in time, admiral Global activates the backup systems and saves both Earth and Thundersub. Then the backup systems fail too and the Death Star flies into the sun. Both relieved because of the rescue of Earth and sad because of the death of admiral Global, Collin turns towards captain Noah, who is tended to by his daughter. The daughter of captain Noah shakes her head indicating that her father is no more. After this sallow victory, Thundersub and the two spaceships head back to Earth.

Visionaries
LeoricThis series is more recent as compared to Transformers, Thundersub and Robotech. The story is set in the future, but in this future everything that was developed by modern technology does not work anymore. The society becomes once more dominated by knights and wizzards. There are two factions of knights; the Spectral Knights and the Darkling Lords. Shortly, after technology has diappeared all knights head for the wizzard Merlin. He grants them special magical powers. All knight gain the ability to change into animals. Some additional receive magical staffs that perform various actions, such as providing wisdom, providing invulnarbility, destruction of items, etc. Other knights receive magical vehicles, that still work, despite the lack of technology. In return for his gifts, Merlin asks favours of all knights, mostly involving quests.
DarkstormIn this setting the good Spectral Knights, commanded by Leoric, defend the city New Valarak against the evil Darkling Lords, commanded by Darkstorm. This series had no real continuing story line such as Thundersub or Robotech and almost all episodes could be viewed seperately. The main characters of the Spectral Knights were among others; Leoric, Feryl, Arzon, and Witterquick. The main characters of the Darkling Lords were among others: Darkstorm, Mordred, Lexor, Cindarr, and Cravex. Interestingly, the voice of Cravex is the same as that of Starscream.

Robotech
This series has still a considerable number of fans. The series had three seasons. In the first season, the main character was Rick Hunter. In this season we followed Rick while he learned to fly his Jet/Robot (The same model as Jetfire). He also had to decide between two women; Lisa, communication officer of their space ship and Minnee, who wanted to become a pop-star. During the series the entire Earth fleet was busy defending the Earth from an alien race. At the end of the first season, Rick, Lisa and Minne were about the only main characters who had survived. Rick and Lisa married and went with the fleet after the retreating enemies, while Minnee stayed on earth.
In the second season, a young female pilot was the main character. The new enemies were the Robotech Masters, these were behind the alien attacks in the first season.
In the third season, the Earth is taken by the aliens. Rick Hunter sends part of his fleet back to Earth to liberate it, while he and the rest of the fleet stays exploring space. The entire group of humans that tried to liberate Earth is defeated. Only one pilot survives. Gradually, he manages to form a small group of humans willing to fight the aliens on Earth. At the end of the season, this pilot leaves Earth, to join Rick's forces in space once again.

Exosquad
This a recent series, that is somewhat based on the Robotech series. A human fleet, named the Exosquad, battles to regain control of Earth, which is taken by Pheaton, leader of the Neosapien Order.

Robotix
Two alien races were fighting each other on a distant planet. As ecological problems threatened to eliminate them both, they agreed upon a cooperation. Using their combined technologies, they managed to make a machine in which all of them could stay in suspended animation. Many years later, the computer reactivated a few persons of both factions and put their personalities into large robots. Both groups set out to investigate whether the planet was suitable again for habitation.
Then a human spaceship crashlanded on the same planet. After making contact with the "good guys", the humans discovered that while they operated the robots, the robots functioned much better [something like Headmasters and Targetmasters :-) ]. The "bad guys" soon made a deal with a group of the more discontented humans and so two groups of robots with humans started a battle on this planet.
During the series, new robots were developed. The "bad guys" even succesfully managed to put the personality of one of their own in a robot of the "good guys" without them knowing it.

Inhumanoids
Unfortunately, I don't have any episode on tape. The story was about various monsters that lived in an extensive labyrinth of caves beneath a city. A group of humans, equiped with special suits, tried to defeat the monsters and prevent them from taking over the city. As far as I remember all episodes were situated in the caves, and the monsters never managed to get to the surface.
